Regardless of whether you activate the Magnetic Stripe, you can always use your card(s) to make EMV chip transactions or contactless payments at overseas Point-of-Sale terminals or ATMs. The EMV chip cannot be disabled.

For enhanced security, we recommend locking your card when not in use, particularly if you are carrying spare cards.

  • Security Tips

For your security, we highly recommend deactivating your overseas ATM cash withdrawal and/or Magnetic Stripe feature on your OCBC card when you return to Singapore, or when these features are no longer required. This helps prevent potential unauthorised use of your card.

    Protecting Your Card While Travelling:
To further safeguard your account, please adopt these security measures when using your card overseas:

✓ Ensure that your latest mobile number is registered with us and that roaming service is activated with your service provider to receive real-time SMS transaction alerts.
✓ Be aware of any unusual objects on or around the ATM card insertion slot. Always cover the keypad when entering your PIN. If you believe your card may have been compromised at an ATM, please contact us immediately at +65 6363 3333.
✓ Pay close attention to your transaction alerts.

To ensure that you receive alerts for all transactions during your trip, we recommend setting the alert threshold amount to SGD 0.01.

You can verify and adjust your alert preferences as needed via OCBC Online Banking:

    • OCBC Internet Banking: Customer service > Manage e-Alerts > ATM transactions / Card transactions
    • OCBC App: More > Profile & app settings > Manage notifications > Card transactions

Please note that telecommunication charges for overseas SMS alerts are applicable.
