Rising cancer incidence, especially among younger adults under 40
With 50 people being diagnosed and 17 people dying from cancer every day, cancer continues to be the #1 cause of death in Singapore1.
More worryingly, cancer diagnosis of those under age 40 have increased by 34% from 2019-2023 vs. 2003-20072. The highest cancer incidence growth rates were observed in men aged 30-39 and women aged 40-492.
Having insurance coverage in place early can help you stay prepared for life’s unexpected moments.

With higher survival rates, cancer coverage now needs to cover the growing costs of recovery.
With strong medical advances in recent years, cancer survival rates have improved significantly from just 19.5% to 61.4% in 20233.
However, recovery often involves other long-term care costs that are not accounted for in most individual’s cancer coverages.
Non-medical expenses such as hiring domestic help, loan repayments, and ongoing daily household costs can quickly add up.
A lump-sum cash payout can potentially help to cover these additional costs, easing financial stress during recovery.

Can you afford to stop working?
Patients often need to step away from work to focus on treatment and recovery, and without a steady income, meeting everyday expenses becomes increasingly difficult.
Cancer Guard provides a lump-sum cash payout that comes in handy to help cushion the financial impact of lost income, giving you the peace of mind to focus on your recovery.
The Life Insurance Association of Singapore (LIA) recommends critical illness coverage of 4 times one’s annual income4 .
That means:
- S$192,000 if you earn S$4,000 a month
- S$264,000 if you earn S$5,500 a month
- S$336,000 if you earn S$7,000 a month
Do you have enough?

A pre-existing condition is any condition that existed before the date of issue or the date of any reinstatement (if applicable) of this policy for which:
- there were symptoms which would cause an ordinarily prudent person to seek diagnosis, care, or treatment; or
- medical advice or treatment was recommended by or received from a medical practitioner; and/ or
- the life assured has undergone medical tests or investigations.
It matters as Great Eastern will not pay the cancer benefit claims that are directly or indirectly caused by, or result from, a pre-existing condition.
