Seniors sent close to 50 per cent more e-Ang Baos in 2025 than in 2024.
Singapore, 29 January 2026 - More seniors are adopting e-Ang Baos to send blessings to their loved ones during the Lunar New Year. In 2025, OCBC noticed a meaningful shift: more seniors aged above 64 embraced e-Ang Baos to share blessings with their loved ones – an increase of over 40 per cent from 2024. In fact, among the seniors who sent an e-Ang Bao in 2025, nearly 8 in 10 were first-time senders. The total number of e-Ang Baos sent by seniors during the Lunar New Year rose almost 50 per cent year-on-year, underscoring their popularity as a convenient and contactless alternative to traditional red packets.
As seniors become more comfortable with e-Ang Baos, they are also sending larger amounts from the OCBC app. Compared to 2024, there was a nearly 40 per cent increase in the number of seniors who sent e-Ang Baos worth S$100 and above. In fact, S$100 e-Ang Baos were the most popular among seniors, with 1 in 10 choosing to gift this amount in 2025.
Overall, Singaporeans demonstrated their growing acceptance of e-Ang Baos. The total value of e-Ang Baos sent increased by close to 40 per cent in 2025 from 2024, while more than 80 per cent of e-Ang Baos were sent outside the first two days of the Lunar New Year. In terms of gifting habits, S$10 was the most popular amount sent. Festive symbolism also played a role as auspicious amounts featuring the number ‘8’ were popular. Notably, 10 per cent of all e-Ang Baos sent were S$8, S$18, S$28 and S$88.
The shift towards e-Ang Baos has been steadily gaining momentum in the post-COVID era. Compared to 2022, the number of customers sending e-Ang Baos increased nearly fivefold in 2025.
“It is heartening to see how digital technology enables traditions to flourish across generations. Last year, we saw an over 40 per cent year‑on‑year increase in the number of seniors sending e-Ang Baos through our OCBC app, reflecting the growing digital confidence among our older customers. e-Ang Baos enable seniors to send blessings of luck and good fortune to their relatives in a way that preserves the meaning of the custom, while remaining convenient and sustainable. This year, we have refreshed our e-Ang Baos with exclusive designs featuring popular cartoon characters like Winnie-the-Pooh, which are sure to delight young Ang Bao recipients, adding a magical touch to e-gifting this Lunar New Year,” said Ng Lee Peng (吴丽冰), OCBC’s Head of Digital Business Singapore (新加坡电子商务部总经理).
