OCBC expands precious metals offering with Platinum and Palladium on the OCBC app

The addition of platinum and palladium offers investors further diversification opportunities within precious metals as an asset class

Singapore, 11 August 2026 – OCBC has expanded the Precious Metals offering on its mobile app to include platinum and palladium bullion, providing retail customers with a lower entry point and greater choice to diversify within the asset class. These new additions build on the Bank’s existing digital gold and silver capabilities, which have been available to retail customers since October 2021.
Despite being globally traded precious metals, access to platinum and palladium through the local banks has been limited to affluent customers. OCBC now enables mass retail customers to invest in platinum and palladium bullion digitally from as little as 0.01 ounces, priced at about S$23 for platinum and S$18 for palladium as of 7 August 2026.
Unique demand and supply dynamics
While demand for gold tends to be driven by its role as a currency-neutral store of value asset, and by central bank buying for reserves, platinum and palladium derive a significant portion of their demand from industrial applications.
Platinum is widely used in automotive manufacturing, hydrogen fuel cell technologies and industrial processes, while palladium plays a critical role in vehicle emissions-control systems. Demand for these metals is therefore closely linked to developments in the automotive, industrial and clean energy sectors. Combined with the concentration of global supply in a handful of countries, these factors can drive price movements that differ from those of gold and silver, exposing investors to a broader set of market influences.
OCBC Group Research forecasts spot prices of platinum and palladium to exceed US$2,000 and US$1,500 respectively by the first half of 2027 – up from US$1833 and US$1389 as of end-June this year.
Ms Tan Siew Lee, Head of Group Wealth Management, OCBC, said, “We are strengthening our position as a leading wealth management player and as the go-to bank for precious metals. By combining fractional investment with a seamless digital experience, we have lowered the barrier to entry for investing in precious metals for all our customers.
It is nonetheless important to recognise that platinum and palladium are high-beta metals. Investors who are willing to tolerate higher volatility may find in them a unique way to gain exposure to themes that sit at the intersection of industrial activity, resource scarcity, and the evolving global energy transition.”
Broadening investments for retail investors
The addition of platinum and palladium to OCBC's Precious Metals Account builds on the Bank's efforts to make investing more accessible, lowering entry barriers and widening access to a range of asset classes through the OCBC app.
Since October 2021, OCBC customers have been able to trade gold and silver paper bullion in real time via the OCBC app, with a minimum investment of just 0.01 ounces. Investor participation has grown steadily. In 2025, the number of customers investing in gold and silver through the platform increased 2.5 times year-on-year, while demand has remained resilient in 2026 despite periods of heightened volatility and sharp price corrections in both metals.
Beyond precious metals, OCBC has made investing accessible across a wider range of investment products on the OCBC app. Customers can invest in structured deposits with a minimum placement of S$1,000, the lowest entry point in the market. Customers can also build diversified portfolios through the OCBC Blue Chip Investment Plan (BCIP) and OCBC RoboInvest, which offer regular investments in selected Singapore stocks, exchange-traded funds, and themed portfolios, with monthly contributions starting from as little as S$100 for BCIP and US$100 for OCBC RoboInvest.
