Singapore, 10 May 2026 – Singapore’s largest mass cycling event concluded its 18th edition today with robust participation, as more than 5,600 cyclists came together to ride through the city central. The three mass ride categories— The Sportive Ride (40km), The Foldie Ride by Brompton (40km) and The Straits Times Ride (20km)— which took place on the second day of the event were fully sold out, underscoring the strong community support and demand for the event.

Cyclists had the rare opportunity to ride on closed roads across iconic landmarks such as the Benjamin Sheares Bridge, past the Singapore Flyer and Gardens by the Bay, before finishing inside the National Stadium this morning, as OCBC Cycle’s mass participation rides capped a weekend of cycling festivities. This year also marked the return of physical rides after the 2025 event was converted to a virtual ride.

With the virtual rides concluding in early June, 7,000 cyclists are expected to have participated across all the event categories, including the 700 riders who took part in in yesterday’s OCBC Cycle Brompton World Championship and Mighty Savers® Kids Ride.

Mr Tan Teck Long, Group CEO of OCBC, said, “This is my third OCBC Cycle experience. I took part in the 20km ride in 2023 and 2024. This year, I challenged myself further to ride in the 40km category. It was exhilarating, cycling alongside more than 2,200 other riders. The adrenaline of riding up and free-wheeling down Benjamin Sheares bridge reminded me of why this event is a key attraction for the local cycling community. Only once a year do you get to cycle on the busy city roads in Singapore closed to cars, buses and lorries. See you next year!”

Cycling community takes to closed city roads

The early morning flag-off saw waves of cyclists, from The Sportive Ride, The Foldie Ride by Brompton and The Straits Times Ride, stream through the city, transforming familiar roads into closed roads for the cycling community.

Mr Tan Ngee, 58, who took part in The Sportive Ride with his son, Mr Wesley Tan, 23, said: “Taking part in the event together was a wonderful experience, especially as this was our first time riding as father and son. We both picked up cycling during the COVID period, and cycling has since given us another way to bond and spend time together on weekends. We will definitely be back again next year, as OCBC Cycle is one of the only times we get to enjoy riding on open roads.”

Ms Marissa Tang, 33, who took part in The Foldie Ride by Brompton, said: “I recently bought a foldie, and it has been such a portable and convenient way for me to get around. This is also my first time participating in OCBC Cycle, and the entire experience was smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. I remember this moment where I received a thumbs-up from a motorbike marshal while cycling uphill – it was such a small gesture from him, but it was actually incredibly encouraging as I was really tired at that point. Thankfully, the weather was great and I was able to enjoy the scenic views along West Coast Highway, which turned into a truly unforgettable experience especially since cycling freely on closed roads in Singapore isn’t something you get to do every day.”

Ms Apple Tan, 34, who took part in The Straits Times Ride, said: “This ride was a personal milestone for me, as I have never cycled 20km continuously before. I started cycling last year while going through depression and anxiety, and it became one of the few things that helped me feel relaxed and free, especially when I could feel the wind on my face and focus on the road ahead. While there were moments during the ride today that were difficult, crossing the finish line was a reminder of how far I have come, and I hope it encourages my son to face difficult moments with the same perseverance.”

Yesterday, the Brompton World Championship, renowned for its spirited mix of competition, creativity and quintessential British flair, headlined the first day of OCBC Cycle 2026 with Mr Adi Putera and Ms Cai Binghui taking the crown in the men and women’s category respectively. While the in-person mass rides conclude today, OCBC Cycle continues with 100km Virtual Ride and Round Island Virtual Ride (minimum 120km) from 9 May to 8 June 2026, enabling participants to complete their rides at their own pace.
