Mr Tan Teck Long, Group CEO of OCBC, said, “When we first organised OCBC Cycle in 2009, our goal was simple – to give back to our community with a cycling experience that no one else could put together. As we launch the 18th edition, OCBC Cycle has become more than just a ride on closed roads; it is a celebration of friendships and family bonds. Year after year, we work closely with the organiser, government agencies and partners to stage an event that is safe and accessible. This year, the Singapore edition of the Brompton World Championship which will be held for the first time at OCBC Cycle will be exciting. None of these would have been possible without the support and partnership of the Land Transport Authority and Sport Singapore.”
Iconic Foldie Race Returns to Singapore Shores
The Brompton World Championship, renowned for its spirited mix of competition, creativity and quintessential British flair, will take place on Saturday, 9 May. Up to 200 cycling enthusiasts from across the region will race their iconic Brompton foldies around The Kallang precinct, with the start and finish line at OCBC Square.
Participants will compete in mixed-gender groups of 20 and complete five laps on an 800-metre circuit in the qualifying stage. The fastest 20 cyclists of each gender will then move into the finals, where they will vie to be the male and female champion and take home a Brompton World Championship Special Edition P Line Brompton bicycle worth $4,995 that is not available for public sale.
Each race will feature the iconic Le Mans-style start where participants dash to their foldies, unfold them before setting off around the circuit. The best dressed cyclists will be awarded exclusive Brompton merchandise.
This will be the second time that Singapore will host the Brompton World Championship, having first staged it in 2022.
Mr Mark Smedley, APAC Managing Director of Brompton Bicycle, said, “We’re delighted to be part of OCBC Cycle and grateful for the opportunity to bring the Brompton World Championship to such an iconic community event. This partnership allows us to celebrate the joy of riding together, from friendly competition to shared moments on the course, and to welcome even more people into the Brompton community in Singapore and across the region”.
Mr Phua Thye Xi, age 28, Brompton Rider and Retail Specialist, said, “As an avid Brompton cyclist, I’m excited that the Brompton World Championship is returning to Singapore after four years — and doing so at OCBC Cycle. The thought of joining hundreds of fellow Brompton riders, all dressed in our funky attire and unfolding our bikes together, is something I am definitely looking forward to. Having rode in the Brompton World Champion Shanghai last year, I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere in Singapore. More than just a fun competition, it’s the kind of event that reminds you why this community of foldie riders is so special”.

Participants also stand a chance to win return Singapore Airlines Business Class tickets to Tokyo, Economy Class tickets to Nagoya, or Japan Airlines tickets to Hokkaido, with prizes varying by registration phase.
