Activation/deactivation of cards for overseas usage

As part of the bank’s security measures, you are required to activate your overseas ATM cash withdrawal or magnetic stripe feature if you wish to use your OCBC ATM, debit or credit card overseas.

You may refer to the table below on what you should do for your intended overseas usage.

Methods

Purpose: For cash withdrawal via overseas ATM

Purpose: For overseas purchases via Point-of-Sale terminal

Online Banking

Via OCBC Online Banking

  1. Login to OCBC Online Banking with your Access Code and PIN
  2. Select "Customer service"
  3. Select "Overseas card use"

  4. To activate/deactivate the overseas card features, check/uncheck the appropriate boxes and follow the steps accordingly.
  5. You will be prompted with a One-Time Password (OTP) via SMS on your mobile phone. Key in the OTP on the Online Banking website to proceed.


Activation or deactivation of card(s) is immediate via OCBC Online Banking.

Via OCBC Mobile Banking

  1. Login to OCBC Mobile Banking App with your Access Code and PIN.
  2. Select "Menu".
  3. Select “More services”.
  4. To activate/deactivate the overseas card features, check/uncheck the appropriate boxes and follow the steps accordingly.
  5. You will be prompted with a One-Time Password (OTP) via SMS on your mobile phone. Key in the OTP on the App to proceed.

Activation or deactivation of card(s) is immediate via OCBC Online Banking.

We will send you an SMS on your activation status within 6 hours from your application.

For activation:

Send an SMS to 72323 or, if overseas, +65 9327 2323 with:

MAG<space>NRIC<space>Last 4 digits of your card<space>ACTIVATE<space>duration of days for card be activated

We will send you an SMS on your activation status within 6 hours from your application.

For deactivation:

Send an SMS to 72323 or, if overseas, +65 9327 2323 with:

For deactivation:

SMS Assist
via Mobile Banking App

SMS Assist – via OCBC Mobile Banking App

  1. Click on the “SMS Assist” icon.
  2. Select “Manage overseas cash withdrawal”.
  3. Enter your particulars.
  4. Select “Activate” or “Deactivate”.
  5. You will be prompted with a One-Time Password (OTP) via SMS on your mobile phone. Key in the OTP to proceed.


We will send you a SMS on your activation or deactivation status within 6 hours from your application.

Note: Deactivating your magnetic stripe feature on your ATM, debit or credit card will only disable overseas purchase service. EMV chip transactions on your debit/credit card(s) will not be affected.

Security Tips

It is recommended that you deactivate your overseas card usage immediately upon returning to Singapore to reduce the risk of unauthorised transactions.

Adopt these security measures when you travel overseas:

  • Update your mobile number to receive real-time SMS alerts on overseas transactions.
  • Change your alert settings on your overseas transaction
    • Overseas ATM cash withdrawal:You will be auto-enrolled for SMS alerts when you activate your card(s) for overseas ATM cash withdrawal. The default amount to receive SMS alerts is set at S$1.
    • Overseas purchase: You will be auto-enrolled for SMS alerts when you activate your card(s) for overseas purchase. The default amount to receive SMS alerts is set at S$1,000.
    • You may change your SMS alert settings via OCBC Online Banking.

  • Beware of any unusual objects placed on or around the card insertion slot on the ATM. Cover the keypad when you enter your PIN. If you suspect you have used your card at a suspicious ATM, contact us immediately at +65 6363 3333.

Please note that telecommunication charges for overseas SMS alerts are applicable.
