My, my, how time flies! It's Christmas time again! It's the favourite time of the year for the Mighty Saver's family.
Simon wanted to get presents for Daddy Sam, Mummy Sandra, Sally and Baby Sarah. Being a champion saver, Simon did not want to dig into his piggy bank to buy presents. But I shall give them a surprise this Christmas, he told himself.
Soon he came up with an idea - he decided to make the presents himself. For a whole week before Christmas, he went around his home collecting old materials. He did it so secretly that Mummy Sandra did not even notice. He collected cardboard, paper plates, magazines, shoeboxes and used clothing. At night, he closed his bedroom door and started making the Christmas presents.
Simon had to make use of his imagination. In school, he asked his friends for ideas. With their help, he was able to come up with an idea for a present for each of his loved ones.
For Baby Sarah, Simon made a frisbee using paper plate. For Sally, he made a lovely hairband using an old scarf. For Mummy Sandra, Simon came up with a jewellery box. Lastly, he made a mouse pad for Daddy Sam.
Simon wrapped up all the presents in old magazines and put them under the Christmas tree.
On Christmas Day, when everybody woke up, they were surprised to see the presents. It was a pleasant surprise when they opened the presents. They thought it was so clever and sweet of Simon. They really liked their presents a lot.
For Simon the champion saver, it was his way of showing that it's really the thought that counts. He gave everyone a special gift which nobody can buy. It was his gift from the heart and it was a Christmas the Mighty Savers would always remember. At the same time, Simon has finally achieved his Gold Badge medal from OCBC, the Mighty Saver's Bank.
