Growing up with Dad
I'm a kampong boy really. I grew up in a kampong in Hougang, with mangoes, papaya and rambutan growing between the houses. Dad always made sure we did our chores and our homework before he would let us play outside. He's worked hard all his life. I still remember him getting up very early in the morning to cut fruits to sell at his drinks stall at a Secondary School in Upper Serangoon.
Toughest decision of my life
Dad always taught me that couples stay together through thick and thin. I remember how much he supported my Mum when she underwent chemotherapy. So when the woman I love fell ill and needed my support, I thought hard about what he would do if he were me, and I prayed the way he taught me to. Dad's simple wisdom made one of the toughest decisions of my life quite clear.
Like father like son
Dad's just that kind of guy. He has a no-nonsense attitude to life and always tries to do the right thing. Now, I appreciate that kind of strength more each day. We've gone through similar challenges in life, but I was blessed with the benefit of having him to guide me. Dad was there for me through the bad times. Now I want to ensure he can look forward to the good times.
Pierre on OCBC SmartSenior
I am excited about the new OCBC SmartSenior Programme. It's a simpler way to parents an allowance and it adds so much more to their way of life.
