FRIED RICE PARADISE is hailed as the biggest local production to hit the theatre this year. We had a chat with Dick Lee, composer and writer of this true-blue Singaporean musical. Back to the Future I wrote this as a pop song 26 years ago as my entry to a Rediffussion Talentime. When People’s Association approached me to write a musical to commemorate their 50th anniversary this year, I thought of this song but with a fresh spin.

Fashion & Music from 70s I love the fashion and music from 70s as it was a very interesting time for Singapore, with many changes happening quickly. This musical deals with how Singaporeans embraced changes while fighting for their identity and values. Introducing… I worked closely with Singapore Repertory Theatre’s Stage Two to put together both the creative team and the cast. I can’t wait to introduce Taufik Batisah and Rahimah Rahim to the musical theatre genre for the first time. DECEMBER RAINS was the first Mandarin musical ever written in Singapore in 1996 and it was an instant hit with sold out performances. We speak to known director and songwriter, Liang Wern Fook (梁文福) All About Love & Kit Chan This year’s version of DECEMBER RAINS centres on friendship and family love. Look out for several fresh takes to the plot including a love triangle struggle! This is also Kit Chan’s first debut after a long break from the entertainment scene and makes our first collaboration in musicals. Singapore’s Unsung Heroes The story is set in the chaotic 1950s because I hope to use this musical to feature the various characters’ life stories and emotions, which portrays the era of a developing Singapore. There is so much history to be shared of the many forgotten unsung heroes who have contributed to Singapore’s development. Music to the Ears I’ve composed a few new songs with Jimmy Ye, a very talented composer just for this musical. There will be a variety of old and new songs sung by Kit Chan and George Chan who are both talented singers. I invite everyone to share my poetic experience in this lovely musical.
